TEPP – NSC – Physical Sciences

National Senior Certificate (NSC) Modules - Physical Sciences

This module equips learners with the skills and knowledge to explore, understand, and explain physical and chemical phenomena in the natural world. Through comprehensive training, principles of physics and chemistry will be covered in topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and chemical reactions, enabling learners to investigate and predict events in the physical environment with real-world applications. Learners will develop strong investigative skills, including hypothesizing, experimenting, and problem-solving. This foundation opens pathways for further studies in Environmental Management, Engineering, Healthcare, Technology, Education, or related fields, equipping them with the skills needed for career opportunities in academic courses in higher education and applied sciences

Programme Structure

Semester 1:

Foundations for Success

Foundations for Success is a 21-week program aimed at strengthening students' foundational knowledge in core NSC subjects, while fostering academic discipline, digital literacy, and promoting health and wellness. It includes key topics such as time management, goal setting, and career guidance, with workshops on digital tools, project management, and NBT preparation. Courses cover subjects like Mathematics, Physical Sciences, English and Computer Studies, as well as specialized topics like Coding & Robotics, SolidWorks, and Engineering Graphics and Design. Students benefit from mentorship, peer study groups, and academic and wellness support, with internal and NBT examinations for assessment. Community engagement and personal development are also emphasized.
Integrates various components such as classroom sessions, introductory safety workshops, and foundational theoretical modules to establish a strong educational base. As students progress, they engage in advanced practical workshops, collaborative group projects, and individual assignments designed to enhance their expertise and deepen their understanding. The initial months focuses on core trade principles, basic concepts, and essential safety practices, whereafter students advance to developing in-depth technical skills, mastering problem-solving strategies, and applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.

Semester 2:

Academic Mastery & Holistic Development

A 20-week program focused on achieving mastery in core subjects, developing advanced digital and technological skills, and preparing students for the transition to tertiary education. Key objectives include improving reading proficiency to university standards, providing career guidance, and fostering personal development through workshops on leadership, public speaking, and university readiness. Courses cover subjects like Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Computer Studies, alongside specialized topics like SolidWorks and Coding. Students take NSC and SolidWorks exams, with mentorship, peer study groups, and academic and wellness support available to enhance their growth.

Outcome: Graduates of the programme will be well-prepared to enter tertiary institutions as competent students in their chosen fields of study. They will possess a strong foundation in academic knowledge and problem-solving abilities, meeting the rigorous requirements of national educational standards. This structured approach ensures that students receive a comprehensive education, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical skills, thereby preparing them for a smooth transition and successful academic journey in their respective degrees.
