Skills Programmes - Civil & Carpentry
The program offers hands-on training in basic civil construction and carpentry. Learners gain skills in bricklaying, concrete mixing, glasswork, roofing structures, and door installations, with an emphasis on safety and accuracy. It also includes basic drawing interpretation and surface preparation for painting. This training aims to prepare individuals for employment as general builders, carpentry assistants, or maintenance workers in the construction and home improvement sectors.
Programme Structure
Phase 1
- General workshop safety rules and practices
- Basic hand tools and measuring equipment
- Safety signs and colour coding
- Basic civil engineering drawings
- Mortar and concrete mixes
- Brick works - dry packing
- Building a one brick wall in Stretcher bond
- Fixing a door and window frame to a wall
- Glassworks
- Preparing painting surfaces – theory
- Paint types and application - theory
- Prepare and paint a surface
- Using Carpentry hand and power tools
- Basic Finishing Techniques
- Installing a door lock
- Fitting a door in a frame
- Installing and Hanging Fixtures
- Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood for roofing structures
Phase 2
Duration: 4 Weeks
Minimum Group Size: 5 delegates
Entry Requirements:
- Grade 10 with Mathematics
 or Mathematics Literacy
Included:
- Limited Toolbox and PPE (Jacket, Gloves & Safety Goggles)
- Training Materials & Consumables provided
- Safety Shoes compulsory (learner to be in possession)
