Workplace Approved Host Company - Work-Integrated-Learning Logbook
Emphasizes the extensive hands-on experiences, complex projects, and the integration of theoretical and practical skills within the workplace. This focuses on furthering the development of the students skills by mastering advanced techniques, solving real-world problems, and preparing for certification.Phase 3
KYB Academy’s Technical Campus – Gap Analysis Assessment and Final External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA Trade Test)
Assesses the hands-on practical experience through complex scenarios and integrating theoretical with practical skills. It focuses on assessing the advanced techniques and real-world problem-solving abilities to achieve certification as a Qualified Artisan.Outcome: Graduates of the Fitter & Turner Training Course / programme will be well-prepared to enter the workforce as competent Artisans in their chosen trade. The Fitter and Turner Training Centre follows a structured three-phase approach.
Phase 1: KYB Academy Technical Campus
During Phase 1, learners complete Knowledge Modules and Practical Modules at KYB Academy’s Technical Campus. This stage includes classroom sessions, safety workshops, foundational theory and practical workshop training. Learners start with core trade principles before moving into more advanced practical work, technical tasks and applied problem-solving.
This phase runs for 13 months and forms the base of the learner’s technical development.
Phase 2: Workplace-Integrated Learning
Phase 2 takes place at an approved host company. Learners complete workplace-integrated learning and build their logbook through hands-on exposure in a real working environment.
This stage helps learners apply classroom and workshop knowledge to real mechanical tasks, industrial maintenance work, repairs, fitting, machining, fault-finding and workplace projects. Phase 2 runs for 20 months and gives learners the practical experience needed before final assessment.
Phase 3: Gap Analysis and EISA Trade Test
Phase 3 takes place at KYB Academy’s Technical Campus and includes a Gap Analysis Assessment and the Final External Integrated Summative Assessment, also known as the EISA Trade Test. This stage assesses whether the learner can combine theory, practical skill and workplace experience to perform as a competent artisan.
Phase 3 runs for 3 months, subject to the Gap Analysis Assessment.
Recognised Occupational Certificate

Entry Requirements for the Fitter and Turner Training Centre

Applicants must also be at least 16 years old and must have a South African ID or a passport with a valid study permit.
