TECH – Technical Skills Programmes

Our Technical Skills Programmes (TECH) stands as a testament to our dedication to technical and academic excellence. TECH offers a dynamic mix of research-driven learning experiences within a state-of-the-art training facility, fostering innovation, critical thinking, and practical skills development. The impact of TECH extends to improving lives within South African communities by encouraging students to contribute positively to society. Unique to TECH are our industry-experienced Subject Matter Experts, who share their skills, experiences, and passion. These courses align with the National Scarce Skills List, preparing students for in-demand technical careers. 

Occupational Certificates

The Occupational Certificate (OC) Artisan Programme is structured to develop skilled Artisans with a deep understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications within various Trades for a successful career in the Industry. The OC programme is aligned with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) framework and follows the guidelines set by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Duration: The programme spans up to a maximum of 36 months, depending on the specific trade. This duration includes a blend of classroom theoretical learning, practical hands-on workshops training, and real-world work-integrated-learning experiences, ending with an External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA Trade Test). 

Programme Structure

Outcome: Graduates of the programme will be well-prepared to enter the workforce as competent Artisans in their chosen trade. They will possess a strong foundation in technical skills, practical experience, and problem-solving abilities, aligning with both national and international standards. This structured approach ensures that students gain a comprehensive education, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical skills, and preparing them for a successful career in the technical trades.

OC - Automotive Mechanic

Overview Summary:
  • This qualification equips learners with the skills necessary to excel as professionals in the automotive industry. Through comprehensive training, students will gain the expertise required to diagnose, repair, and maintain petrol vehicles. This includes working on drivetrains, engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, and other critical components essential for vehicle performance and safety.

Skills Programmes

The Skills Programmes (SP) is structured to develop skilled youth with practical applications within various Industries for career growth in the Workplace. The Skills programme is aligned with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) framework, or guidelines set by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) or South African Education Training Authority (SETA) or Registered Council.

Duration: The courses’ duration will depend on the specific accredited programme’s notional hours as stipulated by the QCTO or other certification body. The duration will be KYB campus based and includes various learning experiences ending with a Final Integrated Summative Assessment (FISA) or Examination. Welder

Overview Summary:
  • This skills programme equips learners to excel as skilled professionals in various industry sectors, such as manufacturing, mining, petrochemicals, and engineering. Through comprehensive training, students will acquire the expertise to participate in shutdown maintenance projects using master welding techniques such as SMAW/MMA, GMAW/MIG/MAG, and GTAW/TIG.
